I purchased this GTI for my own use in October 2005. Having worked for Volkswagen in the 1980’s (when I sold Mark IIs from new) I was keen to find the most original, low mileage, example possible. Having - quite literally – travelled around the country in my quest I located this example in Kent and bought it immediately based on the originality of the car.
This vehicle was originally supplied by St. Brelade’s Volkswagen on Jersey. The first owner brought it with her when she relocated to Cardiff in 1991. A year later (when the vehicle was three years old) she sold it to the second owner who covered a nominal mileage during his 13 year ownership. This gentleman lived in rural Kent and had the vehicle maintained and MOT tested by his local garage. Somewhere along the line the original service book was mislaid, but there is a plentiful supply of invoices and MOT Certificates that support the recorded mileage.
Since purchasing the Golf GTI I have covered less than 1,000 miles in it and have now decided that such a fine and unmolested example needs to be out on the road being enjoyed rather than lurking in my garage being polished to death!
I replaced the Cam Belt and Water Pump shortly after buying it. Since that I have replaced the tyres with a matching set of Firestones and fitted new rear discs. The alloy wheels were professional refurbished a couple of years ago to the correct two colour pattern. All invoices for these purchases are present in the vehicle file. The “old style” Registration Document showing both previous owner details is also in the file.
The vehicle is equipped with a Thatcham 2 Immobiliser.
The current MOT was completed 25 miles ago and was a straight pass without any advisory work recommendations.
