(Featured on 27th May 2014)

Make: Jaguar
Model: E-Type
Year: 1972

Sellers original description:

Model History:

The E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a grand tourer in two-seater coupe form (FHC or Fixed Head Coupe) and as convertible (OTS or Open Two Seater). The 2+2 version with a lengthened wheelbase was released several years later. A total of 7297 Series 3 2+2 cars were made from 1971 to 1975 supporting an all new 5.3 L 12-cylinder Jaguar V12 engine, with uprated brakes and standard power steering the V12 was available only as a convertible and 2+2 coupe.

Interior & Equipment:

The interior is generally very original which is a bonus on this beautifully restored car. The front seats had some splitting, so the centres were retained (to keep originality) and new panels were fitted down the sides, and on top, the bottom cushions were replaced on both front seats, the rear seats needed no attention. The gearstick has been modified to include the overdrive switch as per other Jaguars with a special gear knob made to match the pattern of the gearbox.

Exterior:

She had a full bare metal restoration in 1990, we have the photos to prove and this alone cost over 13k so you can imagine the quality of the work. Some 20+ years later the paintwork is unmarked and stunning having no rust or blistering what so ever and has never been touched since the day it was painted apart from the usual OCD with the wax. She is finished in the very desirable original factory colour Signal Red. The following new panels were fitted during the restoration, - New bonnet - New Doors - New Floorpans - New sills - New Boot Floor - New Wheel arches - New Lower rear Quarters. The quality of this work was truly excellent and has lasted the test of time superbly, this is not a tarted up rustbox that was sprayed last week. The bumpers were rechromed a few years ago at great expense by Derby Plating (the best available). Needless to say she sits perfectly and the panel fit is first class. The bespoke whale tail full stainless exhaust with stainless headers not only looks good it sounds great too.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes:

Although not standard, these revolution wheels are in keeping with the 1970's era. They have been completely restored back to as new having been diamond polished and powder coated and are now unmarked sitting on all matching 205/60 R15 almost new Continental tyres. A full set of original painted steel wheels with growler chrome hub caps are also included in the sale.

Engine & Transmission:

The Engine was removed for complete overhaul, the sump was removed to replace the common leaking crank seal and to inspect the main bearings etc, everything was excellent and no further work was needed. With the manual gearbox removed it was completely rebuilt and had a one off overdrive (4th gear) conversion carried out by Overdrive Supplies of Sheffield, this is believed to possibly be the only Etype with overdrive in the world. The flywheel was refaced and a new clutch fitted. The front suspension was completely stripped and a polybush kit fitted and new Boge shock absorbers which significantly improved the front end feel. The brakes have been fully overhauled with a new master cylinder, servo, brake discs, rebuilt calipers with new pistons and seals, refitted with stainless flexi hoses, copper pipes and new pads. A new alternator has been fitted with a new regulator and a new starter motor. Prior to refitting the engine new rocker gaskets and oil pipe seals were fitted. The engine bay is fully detailed.

Summary:

Full body off restoration, approx £30k spent with a fantastic quality option of overdrive, genuine UK home market car.

Described By Enzo Ferrari on release as

"the most beautiful car ever made"

Need I say more........ ok then I will

Stunning throughout 2+2 E type V12 Manual. She has covered a genuine 82000 mikes having only 4 owners from new and only 2 owners in the last 25 years. We have 25 MOTs to support her milage, the only gaps are the first 2 and time when undergoing restoration.
This is a very special car with a rebuilt 4speed manual box with a new overdrive conversion carried out by overdrive supplies in sheffield (possibly the only series 3 in the world with overdrive!) Whilst in overdrive (5th gear) she is only doing 2500 rpm at 75 mph, giving effortless cruising and much improved mpg.

She has a detailed documented history file totaling in excess of £30k and photographic evidence of the restoration.

She has just had a full service including balancing the carbs, new plugs, leads, distributor cap etc etc. A full 12 month MOT will be done upon sale of the car.

Etypes such as this do not come a long very often hence this is my own personal car. Along with exceptional documented history, low owners and very rare overdrive this is one not to be missed.
