Here we have an exceptional example of the iconic VW Split Screen Camper van. Potentially one of the best ones in the UK this van has been meticulously restored to near perfection throughout.
The bus was supplied to California in 1966 where it has spent the majority of its life. It was later imported into the UK in 2008 where it underwent extensive restoration to bring it up to its current standard. Obviously having been subject to such a hot and dry climate with very little damp the shell of the bus was in exceptionally good condition and required little to no welding as the bus had literally no rot whatsoever. This of course is a major plus point when restoring any bus having an original unmolested shell.
Bodywork & Exterior
Bare metal re spray completed to a professional standard. Every panel is completely straight without the usual wobbly filler patches found when looking straight down one side of most busses. The van has been painted in VW Titan Red / VW Beige Grey. There isn’t a dent or blemish anywhere that I can see on the bus and the paintwork is by far the best I have seen on any Split Screen van.
Original rear side pop out windows.
All exterior trim parts replaced with the highest quality parts including new Hella front lights, Creative Engineering Stainless Steel front badge, Brand new side repeaters and lenses, new aerial, Best quality rear lights & rear badges.
Original Steel wheels in very good condition fitted with 4 brand new Alan Schoffield Polished Stainless Hub Caps (These will not pit like cheap chrome).
Brand new Creative Engineering 3 Bow Polished Stainless Steel roof rack fitted this week at the cost of £600. It hasn’t seen a drop of rain.
Underside
The underside of the bus is in equally good condition to the top and has all original panels in very good condition ready for another 50 years of service.
Engine & Mechanical
1600cc Twin Port Engine reconditioned and setup to perfection. Starts on the button every single time and ticks over perfectly at junctions.
Engine Bay in equal condition without a visible scratch on the paintwork and original chassis number stamped in the correct location by the battery tray has been left revealed and matches with all other numbers including the V5 proving the busses identity.
Interior
The interior is an original Westfalia which has been refurbished and in near immaculate condition throughout. Complete with every item including sink, built in cooler box, ¾ width Rock n’ Roll bed, folding table, Rear opposite facing bench seat, Over head storage cabinet & plenty of other little cubby-holes for extra storage whilst camping or travelling.
Finished with brand new chequered vinyl flooring fitted down meticulously with polished aliminium sill trims to allow the cargo doors to shut perfectly every time.
Headlining finished in soft wood veneered ply and varnished giving a naturally glossy finish complimenting the rest of the Westfalia Interior.
Front Seats re trimmed in original basket weave grey material with grey vinyl underside and piping resplendent with matching grey door cards throughout.
Overall this bus is a very good example and it doesn’t really get much better. All the hard work has been done and the bus is ready to be driven away. Comes with MOT and of course is road tax fee exempt.
