Sellers original description:
MK1 Ford Escort RS 2000.
This car was built from a genuine RS 2000 AVO service shell for a private collection and was first registered in 1984. At this point the car is documented as being built from new parts and was allocated an age related plate for a 1975 RS 2000.
This car has now only covered 24500 miles from when it was built and is probably one of the best examples of an original RS 2000 that you will find. The body shell is totally original, has never been welded or had a panel fitted, all original and totally solid with absolutely no major corrosion, you would need to be buying a car from a museum to find a more original shell. Comes complete with near mint RS interior, black carpet, wood trim and a correct set of mk1 RS alloys all matched and near mint.
Bought via the AVO club some years ago and it was slightly modified, I have returned her to standard and have enjoyed it and enjoyed being part of the AVO family, this car is fully recognised by the AVO club and registered with them as an RS 2000.
The car is in a near standard guise. The only modifications are single leaf springs, an aftermarket 4 branch exhaust (but not too noisy), double width anti roll bar mountings and the battery has been relocated to the boot, albeit using an ultra rare genuine RS1600 / mexico battery tray. A panhard rod was fitted but I have removed this and returned it to standard, the tower remains but could easily be removed.
The mechanicals of this car are in excellent condition and is MOT’d until July. She has just had a full service and we rebuilt the original engine over winter, standard no reboring etc, a freshen up was all it needed. Runs perfect and is a joy to drive.
What can I say about this car, it will sell itself for anyone that is wanting a concourse mk1 RS2000 you will not find a better or more cost effective base, and for anyone who is building the ultimate AVO mk1 historic rally car this is simply an opportunity not to be missed, no expensive rebuilding of a rotten shell with all the man hours that entails... just dip it and prep it.
Business commitments have sadly meant I have no time to enjoy the car, so I am letting the next owner have their turn enjoying this outstanding motor. Please understand the paint work is original and over 25 years old but still looks great, it does have a couple of little dings from storage which upset me, but apart from that a very usable rare classic to be enjoyed for many years to come, a sound investment for the future with values guaranteed. This car was assessed with my insurers this year and has an agreed valuation of £14000. This classic policy cost me £160.00 very cheap for a guaranteed value showing that your investment is safe.
