A perfect Ford Escort RS Cosworth with just 11,866 miles and two owners from new.
Model History:
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship. It was available as a road car from 1992-96 in limited numbers from Ford’s Specialist Vehicle Engineering, (SVE), team. It combines the hand-assembled engine expertise of Cosworth and the coach-building crafts of Karmann. In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth. A very rare car with only 7,145 examples being produced. (Source Wikipedia, 1995 Edition One RS Brochure and the RS Owners Club).
Equipment:
Body colour front bumper with black lower extension, front airdam, louvred bonnet air intakes, wing air extraction grilles, integral driving lights and fog lights, driver airbag, seat-belt grabbers, central double locking, tailgate wiper, padded armrest with cassette storage, oil pressure gauge, turbo gauge, voltmeter, quartz digital clock with ambient temperature, white sports dials, delayed courtesy light, map reading lights, glove box illumination , Ford 2007 RDS radio/cassette, Luxury Model comprising of; electrically operated and heated door mirrors, ‘Quickclear’ heated windscreen, heated washer jets, three-spoke leather covered steering wheel, rear centre armrest, rear head restraints, electric sunroof, electric windows carpeted door bins. Factory Options; delete aerodynamic equipment, passenger airbag, leather interior.
Exterior:
The breath-taking exterior of this Escort RS Cosworth is nothing short of magnificent. Finished in solid Diamond White (code B2), the paintwork boasts a deep gloss shine from the original, unrestored factory finish. Numerous RS Owners Club Concours Logbooks reveal the pampered life this car has enjoyed. All exterior trim is in excellent order including the lights, badges and rubbers. All correct Ford window stickers remain intact including the Ford Security System and Dealer supplier rear window sticker. The aerodynamic equipment was factory deleted making this a very rare car and also increasing top speed by 4mph. A miniscule mark on the roof barely visible, a touched-in tiny bonnet chip and small marks on the rear window prevent the term ‘as new’ being used. The engine bay is immaculate and factory correct in every manor. A champion collectors car.
Interior:
The interior of this Rallye Sport is exquisite. The Recaro seats are finished in the Grey Leather factory specified at extra cost and are in as new condition. The cut-pile carpets are untouched thanks to still spotless genuine Ford carpet mats. The comprehensive and sophisticated instrumentation has beautiful dials with black detail on a white background and all electrical functions operate with warning lights off. A period ‘Mult-T-Lock’ with two keys was Dealer fitted in July 1995 and a Clifford Concept 600 Thatcham Category 1 alarm in June 2000, both with supporting insurance approved certificates. The standard Ford radio/cassette, Model 2007 RDS sound system remains as Ford intended and provides excellent sound through the original eight speakers. The boot area has been unused. An impeccable RS interior representative of a new vehicle handover in August 1995.
Engine & Transmission:
The original RS Cosworth powerplant warrants little introduction. Fitted with the factory standard Generation Two Ford EEC IV electronic engine management system and Garrett AiResearch T25 turbocharger and intercooler, the motorsport pedigree of this car is unmistakable. With an impressive output of 217HP allowing the car accelerate rapidly through 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 144mph, this truly is a recipe to set the heart racing. Regular Ford Main Dealer maintenance including a full cam-belt and 60,000 miles service to manufacturer specification at 10,979 miles leaves the new owner with peace of mind. The permanent Ferguson four wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox is a delight.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes:
Genuine and immaculate Ford RS 8 X 16” five-spoke alloy wheels are shod in the original, no longer available and specially formulated 225/45 ZR16 Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico tyres. Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs offer immense stopping power.
History File:
Built in June 1995 at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany and registered new to its first owner, Mr Findell on the 1st August 1995 by Radmore’s of Tavistock this vehicle was cherished by him for five years before being sold to the second owner. The full and complete history file reveals the car was a sold by the same Ford Main Dealer on the 22nd May 2000 for £22,000 to the second keeper. At collection this incredible car had covered just 7,745 miles and the owner lavished a huge amount of time and effort to make this a top UK exhibit. MOT history with Ford Agents confirms the wonderful low and unique mileage of just 11,866.
The blue A5 Ford folder with Radmores of Tavistock sticker on the front contains the following; completed Identity Card, Audio System Passport and Audio Systems Keycode, stamped Ford Service Book, Ford Escort RS Cosworth Owners Handbook, Ford Audio Systems Operating Guide, Accessories Booklet, Ford Escort Owners Handbook, Rapid Fit Booklet. Four keys including the red master key and working torch key are included. The plastic tag with the key number remains along with two Clifford remote units.
