Sellers original description:
1974 BMW 2002tii.
Perhaps the car that cemented BMW’s reputation for building sporting saloons of excellence. The ’02 range had been developed from the Neue Klasse saloons in order to provide a smaller, cheaper entry into BMW ownership. It always had a delightfully stylish body and crisp, sporting dynamics, but fitted with the larger 2-litre and Kugelfisher fuel injection the 130bhp 2002tii became a real performance car and (apart from the ultra-rare Turbo) the most sought after model today.
Our 1974 2002tii is finished in its original Golf Yellow – a strikingly early 70s hue that suits the car perfectly – with a black interior and wears period BMW-marked BBS lattice alloy wheels with unused Goodyear tyres.
Remarkably, this 2002 has had just one owner from 1976 until 2013, with one previous owner 74-76. In 1993 the last owner commissioned marque specialists, Jaymic to fully restore the car back to ‘as new’ condition at a cost of £20,000 (approximately £35k today, adjusted for inflation).
We have all the bills from Jaymic detailing what new parts went into this car. Many complete panels were replaced on the shell, the engine was completely rebuilt with a reconditioned fuel injection system, brakes and suspension were all replaced along with much of the trim. In essence, a ground up restoration to the standards that Jaymic have built their reputation on.
In addition, in 1996, a further £1800 was spent on a full retrim of the interior, finishing the seats in black leather rather than the original vinyl.
So after £22k was invested during the 90s, this car has remained in dry storage and covered just 1100 miles.
With so few miles covered since restoration and careful storage, this 2002tii remains in exceptional condition inside and out. The paint is superb, the body rust and bodge free, and the interior gorgeous.
After so many years of inactivity since restoration, substantial recommissioning work has been carried out on the car mechanically with the result that it now drives beautifully with that tight, crisp feel of a freshly restored example and lusty performance from its injected ‘four’.
We think you would struggle to find a nicer example of a 2002tii.
